More Silk Icons – Silk Companion #1

FamFamFam produces a great set of 1,000+ free silky-smooth 16×16 pixel icons called Silk Icons. You can never have too much of a good thing.

Here is a small sample of the 450+ new icons in my Silk Companion #1 icon set (download) now available:

The Silk icon pack available from FamFamFam (also known as Mark Jones) is an excellent pack of free 16×16 pixel icons.

Whilst the pack contains over 1,000 icons I still find plenty of gaps when I am using them and being that there has been no new updates in 18 months I have decided to release my own companion pack of several hundred more icons in the same style.

The new icons fall into one of several types:

new icons are drawn from scratch in the same style (moon, Apple, decline, text, borders, ruler)
adjusted/recoloured versions of existing icons (people, database, disk, CD-R, gold star, silver bell)
new compositions (OS Xx applications, paint+brush, bug fix)
modifications to existing icons (eaten cake, broken heart, checked flag, bookmark, sorting)

The current companion pack is weighing in at around 300 icons but I expect this number to reach around 400-500 by the middle of next week and then I’ll release them here (under the exact same Creative Commons licence as the original pack).

AnkhSVN 1.0 released (Subversion plug-in for Visual Studio)

AnkhSVN 1.0 has been released!

If you use Visual Studio 2003 or 2005 and are currently either using the TortoiseSVN shell extension (or Subversion command line) then you would do well to see just how much more productive having source-control available from within the IDE can be.

Thanks go to Arild and mac|gyver for all their hard work on this great open source project.

AnkhSVN 1.0 RC4 out

AnkhSVN has been updated since this post.

AnkhSVN is a Visual Studio add-in that delivers Subversion functionality where you need it and Arild has just made available release candidate 4 of the forthcoming 1.0 version.

The RC4 update sees some important fixes relating to deleting items and handling some non-core project types. Having recently looked at the Visual Studio API myself I’ll take my hat off to the team on having addressed these issues.

This release also the débuts the new icon set I’ve been working on and will be the first time my pixel-plotting icon skills are to be seen by more than a handful of people. Previous icon sets have been for very specific software with limited user bases such as Monitor/RA BBS monitoring software or the ZX Spin Spectrum Emulator.

Here’s a couple of samples. Yeah the hearts for the repository and washing machine for clean-up are unusual and they are all Firefox style…
