District Digital

A 2018 digital take on the District font that started as just one variant but as the other styles of District grew it made more sense to split it out into its own so it could get bold, outline, and bold outline variants without making the former typeface collection too large.

While the font is not too dissimilar to District the angular and sharp edge contrasts give it quite a different feel and it is much better suited for tech-inspired scenarios. The non-outline versions work great for all scenarios and the outlines can work great for titles when the background is lighter than the font color.

Diamond

This design started with trying specific diamond shapes but soon took on more irregularity to deal with the size constraints. When combined with the lower-case characters not joining up the counters, it took on a rough unpolished look, evoking old-time adventure.

The font works well for large runs of prose.

Cushion

On reviewing many of the fonts for publication as part of my ZX Origins collection I noticed a dearth of softer fonts and Cushion is an attempt to address that.

Soft curves are difficult on an 8x8 as you either take one pixel off a corner or three - the former can look square and the latter triangular. As always a combination of tricks such as reducing the length of the horizontal strokes can achieve a more desirable effect.

This font works great everywhere and is very pleasing to read.

Conapt

I love observing typography in the real world and building signage is one of my favorites with a special place for Neutra, Clarendon, and Century Gothic.

My first attempt at this - again in BASIN this year (2019) - looked very much like my other sans so I took a second stab this time at a futuristic one and it came out rather well. The name - Conapt - is taken from Condo and Apartment joined together which has been used in various sci-fi movies as their name for compact housing and it has a distinct Blade Runner feel.

I tweaked the font in 2020 to correct some alignment and style issues (r,x,V etc) and added the semi-bold and bold weights.

This font works well for titles and lists as well as long blocks of futuristic prose.
