The inspiration for this name I believe from an advert for the Quickshot joystick but I can no longer find the original source to confirm that.
It is a very hard, sharp and angular bold font that works well for titles and short blocks of text. It can be used for longer runs with some careful usage.
I designed this font in 2020 as a tribute to the DALEK font used originally in the 1964 Dr. Who tie-in Dalek Book. The font went on to see popular use with Cesar’s Palace adopting it for their logo sometime later. The DALEK font did not include a lower-case so I improvised there based on the cues in the upper case and numerics.
It works surprisingly well in an 8x8 given the angles and flair although extensive use would be challenging to read and is best left to Aztec inspired titles and headings.
This font has been sitting in my incomplete folder for probably well over a year. I couldn’t decide what to do with it. It looks different enough from my other fonts but is also quite inconsistent. Attempts at making it more consistent resulted in a complete loss of flavor.
I showed this to a couple of people at the Seattle Retro Computing meetup - one guy there was specifically interested in 8x8 fonts for a SEGA Master System game he’s creating and they both liked it so… here it is along with an additional bold-variant.
It works pretty well in all scenarios, as with a lot of these fonts a proportional renderer would make it shine.
A 2019 production that tries to be more aggressive full of tech flair and sharp angles available in three weights.
This font works well on title screens and for short runs of text, status screens, menus, etc. Longer prose is harder to read. It would also look good with either a proportional renderer or one capable of rendering just 6 or 7 pixels wide.
