Jam

I thought I’d covered most of the over-bold uneven styles I could in previous fonts but this one goes extreme in a top-heavy way and managed to pull off something a little different.

It works well for headlines and title screens although the WMm and w can be very tight and a proportional render can really help there.

Polaris

In April 2020 an individual behind the Phantasy Star retranslation project named Maxim reached out to see what could be done about the boring font in the Sega Master System game.

The brief was futuristic but old which were quite at odds with each other so I took a few cues from the Phantasy Star title screen and went with an angular theme that still spouted plenty of chunky serif flair.

This font works surprisingly well for blocks of text, titles and headings.

SquareWolf

I designed this font in 2019 but didn’t polish it up until 2020. I’d held back expecting to create some different variant or for some other font to otherwise intersect into a typeface but it never happened.

The font works quite well for futuristic styled games when used sparingly - large paragraphs of text can however be hard to read given the limited x-height.

ZX Maverick

I ran into the FF Maverick on signage at Science World in Vancouver and had to take a snap to later identify.

In 2019 I had a go at doing an 8x8 pixel version but it required a fair bit of back and forth until I found something I feel captured the spirit of the original.

This typeface despite having plenty of flair on the capitals and numerics is quite easy to read thanks to the more restrained lower-case glyphs. It works well in all scenarios where you want a modern-looking bold font.
