I designed this font in 2019 as an intersection between regular italic fonts and handwritten fonts.
It is almost too neat and uniform to be a handwriting font yet has a certain hand-made charm to it.
Readability and spacing is good although it would also benefit from a proportional renderer to deal with those pesky i and l glyphs.
Can be seen in 16K Life.
Flowing decorative flourishes and a distinctly human twist are hard to do justice in any format let alone 8x8 pixels. This font started in late 2019 as an attempt to take a break from a Blackletter font I later published as Byteletter.
As this font is not bold it has quite a different feel from popular “old-time” fonts such as the one made popular in many a Zenobi text adventure. This font was originally published as ‘Scribe’ until I decided to rename it ‘Parchment’ as I have another font coming that better suits the name Scribe.
It works pretty well for large runs of text and is still quite readable for titles.
I designed this font in 2019 when I saw Andy McDermott had written a text adventure set in France called Resistance that was using the built-in ROM font and created this from scratch to give it a hand-written French feel.
It was not used in the game - I hope because he couldn’t find enough spare bytes as he had 727 bytes left and a RAW Spectrum font is 768 bytes.
The font works well for titles, lists, and long runs of text and I’d love to see it finally get a home in a text adventure.
Another 2018 design this time a more formal hand font that still has some personality yet isn’t as flowing. Perhaps an official log or record of events.
This font works quite well in all scenarios and provides nice spacing despite the bold and italic nature of the font.
