ZX Baveuse

A fresh in 2021 production of Baveuse by prolific type designer Raymond Larabie and is probably most well known as being the typeface used in the animated TV show Archer.

I’d done a handful of heavily-weighted top and bottom fonts (see the consider section to the side), but although Clipper was probably the closest, it was quite far away from this design in terms of look and feel.

The upper-case and lower-case are often the same in both glyphs, but sometimes the vertical-weight is a little less on the lower case. I’ve also had to deviate from the original in a few places like the G to squeeze something usable out of the limited pixel grid.

I think it works well for all kinds of scenarios, and prose is easy to read even though the alphabet is a mix of upper and lower-case glyphs.

Quaked

I designed this font back in 2020 after seeing a screenshot of Star Quake - a game I very much enjoyed in my youth that had some nice early 8x8 typography.

That said it was a little uneven and a bit too similar to some of the other magnetic inspired fonts so I went away and came up with something that has a feel of a magnetic one but puts the bulge on both sides to give the characters a stepped angular feel.

It works quite well for large runs of text but is much nicer on a title screen or menu.

Quickshot

The inspiration for this name, I believe, came from an advert for the QuickShot joystick. I can no longer find the source to confirm that.

It is a hard, sharp, and angular bold font that works well for titles and short runs of text. It can be used for longer runs with some careful usage.

Jam

I thought I’d covered most of the over-bold uneven styles I could in previous fonts but this one goes extreme in a top-heavy way and managed to pull off something a little different.

It works well for headlines and title screens although the WMm and w can be very tight and a proportional render can really help there.
