Flick

I do not recall where the inspiration for this one came from nor exactly when it was created, I suspect 2018.

This font is super bold but also has some flourishes and the odd serif. Surprisingly with all that it looks pretty good and is usable for titles and dialog. I would be careful with colors to ensure good contrast especially if aiming for CRT users.

Can be seen in The Relic and Flexible Frosty.

Eclipse

A 2006 creation once again for BASIN this time taking the idea of a solar eclipse to fonts and filling in all the counters. The style was quite popular in the 80s with Electronic Arts using a similar thing for their EOA logo.

This font like all no-counter fonts is very hard to read and should be used sparingly for titles.

Deaf Metal

Yet another font I created for the BASIN package around 2006 that wasn’t so much designed as burst forth as metal music should.

The glyphs are overly bold, angular, and overtly aggressive. I revised a few of them since the 2006 release to fix some height issues with some of the lower-case letters.

The final result works better for large runs of text than you’d expect given the style but it works best used sparingly.

In 2020 I added a new attempt at the style. It’s an interesting different take using small caps for lower-case and is actually based on the square version which was itself an attempt at Soviet poster typography.

Can be seen in HELL YEAH!.

Datel Tribute

I designed this font some time back in the 90s using Artist II as a tribute to the font used by Datel Electronics on their products and ads (they used something less extreme by the time they became a 16-bit Action Replay only shop).

I subsequently found out the font is STOP created in 1971 by Italian type designer Aldo Novares. There is quite a variance as I only had the letters in Datel’s ads to go by and even then it was a bit of a liberal interpretation.

A second “Replay” variant was added in 2019 and a “Tron” variant that uses the Tron: Uprising style of capitals later in 2020.

The font works well for titles and is also usable for small runs of text/lists.

Can be seen in Astronaut Labyrinth.
