Undead

A fresh 2021 production that draws inspiration from styles of lettering often used in dark and horror-themed environments.

Full of unexpected angles, protruding descents and barbed spikes, it’s sure to add an element of uncomfortableness to any text adventure or graveyard-themed beat-em-up.

Beastly

Everyone has inspirations in their life that shape their idea of art, and Shadow of the Beast (2 specifically) was one of mine. Seeing that gorgeous artwork and the music that dynamically changed as you progressed through the area changed my opinion of what computers could do.

I’ve tackled some of the styles before with Razor inspired more by the Psygnosis logo and Roger Dean logo, but this type is more inspired by the artwork in the game. The game itself does have a nice font, but it’s quite different from this - perhaps I’ll figure out a way of getting all those up online somewhere at a later date.

The small caps work well as special attention was given to keeping the M and W from touching other characters, and the lowercase is still quite readable and would work in an other-worldly low-tech scenario.

Torment

A 2020 BASIN production with a sharp aggressive type with pointed vertical strokes.

It works quite well as titles and headings and can be readable in short runs of text with generous vertical spacing.

Can be seen in Danterrifik II.

Shuriken

A mid-2020 font that needed a bit of a push over the line to make it work. Angular and sharp with overshoots and pointed serifs.

The font is very easy to read on titles and menus and can be used for body copy at a pinch. It is certainly more readable than many other aggressive/horror-themed fonts.
