I originally designed Nicety back in 2006 for the BASIN package as a resource for authors but felt the need to polish it up somewhat with all new semi-bold and bold variants in 2018 in preparation for ZX Origins.
It is a nice clean easy-to-read sans-serif that is a little condensed. With a standard 8x8 renderer it looks quite spaced out but, with a proportional renderer, it can look great.
Having three weights of a font isn’t typical for an 8x8 font so if your adventure or game requires a couple of levels of emphasis this can be a great option as all three are highly readable and consistent.
I designed this font in 2019 and for a moment I thought I had re-created Rosand but while both have those tight corners and interesting gaps they don’t share much else in common and so here it is as a separate typeface.
It works great for titles and lists and can be used for runs of text provided they are short with a good color scheme.
I designed this font in 2018 initially as a rectangular version of the 1920s Cinema but it quickly took on a feel of its own and with some narrowing of the glyphs and alternative flair switched style completely and detached from the past entirely.
Now it almost feels like a stream of binary 1s and 0s flying out of a device port…
This font very well for titles and list screens but a little heavy on the eyes for long runs of text like text adventures.
Yet another font I created for the BASIN package around 2006 that wasn’t so much designed as burst forth as metal music should.
The glyphs are overly bold, angular, and overtly aggressive. I revised a few of them since the 2006 release to fix some height issues with some of the lower-case letters.
The final result works better for large runs of text than you’d expect given the style but it works best used sparingly.
In 2020 I added a new attempt at the style. It’s an interesting different take using small caps for lower-case and is actually based on the square version which was itself an attempt at Soviet poster typography.
